The Charity Insights Canada Project (CICP) published insights into the current issues and challenges in the Canadian charitable sector. According to the research, the top three priority areas for charities over the next twelve months are funding stability and financial sustainability (76%), donor or funder relationships (32%), and community outreach/engagement (26%). The majority of charities described their organization’s overall outlook positively for 2026, with 24% of charities indicating they are very optimistic and 54% indicating they are somewhat optimistic.

The most significant challenges or risks facing the charitable sector as a whole, according to the research, include:

  • Financial instability or funding uncertainty (91%)
  • Growing demand for services (59%)
  • Changing donor expectations or giving behaviour (44%)
  • Political or policy uncertainty (40%)
  • Declining volunteer participation (37%)
  • Workforce shortages or skills gaps (37%)
  • Global economic uncertainty (36%)
