The Charity Insights Canada Project (CICP) published insights into charities’ relationships with Donor Advised Funds, drawing on responses from organizations across Canada. Over one-third (36%) of participating Canadian charities reported receiving zero DAF grants in the past 12 months; meanwhile, the majority reported receiving the following:

  • 1-10 grants: 46%
  • 11-50 grants: 7%
  • 51-100 grants: 1%
  • More than 100 grants: 1%

The approximate total dollar values of the DAF gifts that participating charities reported receiving in the past 12 months are as follows:

  • Under $5,000: 26%
  • $5,000-$24,999: 34%
  • $25,000-$99,999: 25%
  • $100,000-$499,999: 11%
  • $500,000 or more: 2%
  • Not sure: 2%

Participating charities shared key challenges they are experiencing related to DAF giving:

  • Identifying and cultivating prospective DAF donors: 56%
  • Limited internal understanding of DAFs: 35%
  • Stewarding and communicating with DAF donors: 29%
