The CAGP Foundation released Legacy Giving in Canada, a landmark national research report offering the most comprehensive and inclusive look at charitable bequests, gifts in Wills, and estate planning trends in Canada to date. Building on their foundational 2019 study – and five years after the launch of the Will Power campaign – this research reveals a powerful shift: more Canadians than ever are interested in legacy giving, and the number who have already included a charitable gift in their Will has doubled.
Inside the report, you’ll find insights on:
- The rise in legacy giving interest, from 31% in 2019 to 44% of Canadians likely to leave a gift in their Will
- A generational shift, with Canadians under 50 now leading in both interest and action
- Key barriers that remain – and practical opportunities for gift planners, charities, and professional advisors to help more Canadians turn intention into action
- The evolving profile of legacy donors, revealing that Black, Asian, and South Asian Canadians are now more likely than average to include a charity in their Will
This report reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering inclusive conversations, and strengthening the culture of strategic charitable giving across Canada. Through this work, the CAGP Foundation aims to ensure that legacy giving is recognized not as a niche or end-of-life activity, but as an evolving mindset rooted in purpose, impact, and care for both family and community.
