Manulife Canada published The Wellness Report, which found that mental fatigue and burnout drive productivity losses equivalent to 46 working days per employee every year. The report was developed based on a comprehensive workplace wellness assessment survey of 159 organizations and 4,700 employees in Canada. The study highlights the top barriers affecting workplace well being – and where employers can make the biggest impact to support a healthier, more resilient workforce, both today and over the long term.

Key insights:

  • 80% noted that work contributes to their current mental state
  • 57% reported that mental health challenges affect their ability to perform their job
  • 57% indicated they experience burnout at work at least some of the time
  • 19% identified mental fatigue as the biggest barrier to improving their mental health
