The Ontario Trillium Foundation introduced Sector Grants, designed to strengthen the capacity and resilience of Ontario’s nonprofit sector.
Project objectives:
Grants support projects that respond to shared needs and emerging opportunities across the sector. Funded projects will help applicants achieve one of the following objectives for Sector Grants:
- Create or adapt tools and approaches that will strengthen the capacity of the nonprofit sector to respond to changing community needs or opportunities.
- Improve how data is collected, shared, and used to build capacity across the nonprofit sector.
- Build understanding of diverse and non-traditional funding and strengthen the nonprofit sector’s capacity to access it.
Eligible applicants: Eligible organizations must be nonprofits with a demonstrated mandate, presence, and established reputation for supporting Ontario’s nonprofit sector. Organizations that solely deliver direct programs and services in their communities are not eligible.
Amount awarded and grant term: From $50,000 to $300,000 a year, for 1, 2, or 3 years.
Application period:
The Sector grant application is completed in two steps:
- The first step involves submitting the Organization Information and high-level Project Information.
- Step 1: September 23 to October 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
- The second step, for applicants whose projects meet the requirements, builds on the information provided in Step 1 and requires more in-depth project details.
- Step 2: October 15 to December 2, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
