Charities Aid Foundation published the 2026 World Giving Report, revealing key trends and challenges facing the sector. The report is broken up into two segments, Donor Insights and Charity Insights.
The Donor Insights segment dives into the giving patterns of people around the world. According to the research, six in 10 people globally donated money in 2025. People were most likely to donate by giving money directly to people in need (36% of people globally) or to charities (34%). Six in ten (62%) people globally perceived that charities have had a fairly or very positive impact in their local community, rising to a high of 75% in Africa. Four in ten (40%) of people globally said that their government encourages giving to charity, with people in Asia (55%) and Africa (51%) being the most likely to agree.
The Charity Insights segment explores the landscape for social purpose organizations in 33 countries around the world. According to the study, there is no continent where the majority of charities feel well set up for the years ahead. The outlook is more positive for those based in North America, Oceania, and Asia, where over 40% feel well set up, while in South America it falls to only 26%. Nearly all participating charities (92%) reported at least one of six financial and operational challenges, with financial sustainability the most commonly cited (61%).
