agentsC Inc. Canada published the Fundraising While Black: Harm, Happiness, Healing Report, which highlights the expressions of Black fundraisers in relation to systemic anti-Black Racism in the fundraising profession. The agentsC report spotlights the failures of Predominantly White Institutions and traditional fundraising associations to meaningfully confront and resolve systemic anti-Black racism. Examining how the rise of the “anti-woke” agenda is reversing the modest gains previously made toward racial equity through DEI initiatives.
According to the report, 80% of Black fundraisers experience high levels of burnout, and ongoing exposure to anti-Black racism that is frequently denied, dismissed, or minimized within the organizations they serve. Throughout the report, agentsC identifies solutions rooted in strengthening and expanding the important role of Black Fundraising Associations, alongside collaborative approaches to building a nonprofit sector where Black fundraisers are recognized, protected, and valued. An important note, the analysis is not only about the conditions affecting Black fundraisers—it is about the structures shaping every institution that engages Black people as employees, volunteers, consultants, investors, and donors.
