The BC Non-Profit Network and Vantage Point published Stretched Thin: 2025 State of BC’s Non-Profit Sector Report, which is based on Vantage Point’s State of BC’s Non-Profit Sector Survey data. The report highlights that nonprofits are facing an increased demand for services and encountering more severe community challenges; concurrently, nonprofits are also experiencing difficult financial times. According to the research, nonprofits are prioritizing staff retention and support, and investing in fund development, planning, and governance to adapt under pressure.
Key findings:
- Over four in five survey respondents reported experiencing increased expenses across all types.
- Nearly two in five (36%) reported experiencing decreased revenues.
- Staff salaries and wages, the greatest program expense for nonprofits, are the top increased expense, followed by administrative and operational expenses.
- One in three (33%) respondents indicated that sustainability is at risk beyond the next 12 months; organizations with operating budgets under $1M are especially vulnerable.
The report stresses that despite these challenges, the sector continues to persevere. Stressing the fact that organizations are finding ways to adapt, strengthen operations, and support the communities they serve.
