The Charity Insights Canada Project (CICP) published a new briefing note, Underrecognized Human Capital: Canada’s Charitable Workforce, which examines the charitable sector as a major employer and workforce engine. Developed based on data collected through the CICP’s national survey panel, comprising roughly 1,000 Canadian charities from across the country, the briefing note highlights the sector’s economic contributions, the characteristics of its workforce, and the challenges charities face in attracting and retaining talent.

According to the study, 59% of charities have identified staff salaries and benefits as underfunded relative to their importance or need. Based on this data, CICP further delves into why greater recognition of the sector’s human capital is essential to building a more resilient and prosperous Canada.
