New wearable technologies are offering promising tools to help people living with epilepsy detect and respond to seizures, improving safety and peace of mind for individuals and families. Recent advances in wearable technology, including smartwatches and specialized devices, can detect patterns associated with certain types of seizures and send alerts to caregivers or loved ones. The Centre for Epilepsy & Seizure Education in BC (ESEBC) maintains a frequently updated online resource page outlining currently available seizure-detection devices and emerging technologies designed to support people living with epilepsy.
March is Epilepsy Awareness Month, culminating in Purple Day on March 26, an international day dedicated to raising awareness and reducing stigma around epilepsy. To help continue the conversation locally, ESEBC is inviting the community to participate in Steps of Hope, a family-friendly epilepsy awareness walk taking place May 2 at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford and remotely in communities throughout BC. The event brings together families, supporters, and community members to raise awareness for support services for people living with epilepsy across British Columbia.
