The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families, has announced the appointment of ten new members to the National Advisory Committee for Canada’s Volunteer Awards.
The committee brings together volunteer leaders, community builders, and past Canada’s Volunteer Award recipients from across the country. Members review top-ranked award nominations and make recommendations to the Minister of Jobs and Families, who makes the final selections.
The ten newly appointed members are:
- Rikki Boté, Regina, Saskatchewan
- Ryan Hreljac, Ottawa, Ontario
- Sudhir Jha, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
- Melanie Mahlman, Victoria, British Columbia
- Willy Wilondja Mayaliwa, New Maryland, New Brunswick
- Sebastian Muermann, Montréal, Quebec
- Blake L. Olson, Abbotsford, British Columbia
- Sukhjit Singh, Brampton, Ontario
- Stacie Smith, Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Dr. Sally Zhao, Calgary, Alberta
Committee members are selected based on their experience in the volunteer community, with membership intended to reflect Canada’s geographic, cultural, linguistic, and sectoral diversity. Members serve three-year terms with the possibility of an extension. Five existing members will continue to serve on the committee, while five others are concluding their terms.
Canada’s Volunteer Awards recognize the contributions of volunteers, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and businesses across five award categories, with 21 awards presented in total.
