The Charity Insights Canada Project (CICP) published insights into board terms and recruitment in the Canadian charitable sector. According to the research, the majority of participating charities (57%) currently have open board positions. With nearly half of participating charities experiencing difficulty recruiting qualified and interested individuals to serve on their boards (43%).

CICP found that the most requested skills and experience identified include:

  • Fundraising skills (61%)
  • Accounting or legal experience (56%)
  • Diverse backgrounds or perspectives (56%)
  • Community connections (55%)
  • Compatibility with the existing Board (45%)
