The Charity Insights Canada Project (CICP) published insights into personnel turnover and retention in the Canadian charitable sector. According to the research, more than half of participating charities reported experiencing minimal (26%) to no paid staff turnover (36%) in the past year. Meanwhile, volunteer and board member turnover increased compared to the 2025 data.
Reported impacts of personnel turnover:
- Increased workload for remaining staff and volunteers (59%)
- Loss of institutional knowledge or continuity (34%)
- Increased recruitment or training costs (29%)
- Delays or disruptions to programs or services (29%)
- Reduced leadership or governance capacity (22%)
- Reduced organizational morale (22%)
