United Way Centraide Canada published the Financial Anxiety Index in Canada report, which found that financial anxiety is surging across Canada with a six-month spike, as more people are struggling to keep up with basic costs. The report was developed based on the United Way Centraide Canada’s Financial Anxiety Index poll, which was conducted by Léger. According to the poll, two in five people in Canada are struggling to put food on the table, and 40% are losing sleep over how they’ll stretch their paycheque.
Based on the research, single parents (58%) and newcomers (54%) are more likely to be unable to cover basic expenses without going into debt after one month if they lose their main source of income. United Way Centraide Canada notes that the findings point to a deepening fracture in financial stability across demographics that is now affecting people who once considered themselves financially stable.
