The Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons (CFPDP) is pleased to announce the installation of plaques for new inductees at the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame. Founded by the CFPDP, this inpsiring and informative event first took place in 1974 at Metro Hall in downtown Toronto. The Canadian Disability Hall of Fame continues to recognize nominees across Canada who have truly made a difference.

New inductees were placed in the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame on October 30, 2020, presented by CIBC. Here are this year’s extraordinary inductees:

Tim Cormode (Builder): An outdoor enthusiast and previous camp counsellor supporting young adults with disabilities who combined nature with adventure to help people of varying abilities build confidence, make connections, and achieve their dream.

Martha Sandoval Gustafson (Athlete): A Paralympic medal winner who won 19 medals, including 12 gold and seven silver. This achievement ranks her as Canada’s most decorated Paralympian. She boils success down to a simple philosophy, “Compete against yourself and always try to do your best.”

Meenu Sikand (Achiever): An award-winning disability rights advocate, transformative leader, and champion of accessibility and inclusivity. She is a sought-after speaker who has travelled the world providing education on disability-related topics ranging from mental health and cultural competencies to parenting and race.

Nominations to the Hall of Fame come from sources across Canada – community groups, private citizens, associations and organizations of and for people with physical disabilities. Nominees are chosen each year by the Hall of Fame’s Selection Board in the category of Builder, Achiever or Athlete. The inductees are individuals who truly have made a difference – those who have opened doors for people with disabilities in the areas of sports, education, employment or housing. Please nominate someone someone for the Hall of Fame before May 21, 2021.
