Vantage Point published a new report, Uneven Ground: 2026 State of BC’s Non-Profit Sector, exploring how organizations are responding to rising demand, increasing costs, and changing financial conditions. Drawing on responses from more than 400 organizations, the report highlights both the sector’s adaptability and the growing pressures testing its capacity to meet community needs.

Among surveyed organizations:

  • 86% reported increased demand for their programs and services, while 83% said community needs had become more complex or severe.
  • 79% reported increased expenses. At the same time, revenues increased for 39% of organizations and decreased for an equal 39%.
  • 59% reported that community demand exceeded their capacity to respond.

An organization’s budget size, funding diversity, and access to space can shape how it experiences these pressures. Understanding those differences is essential to strengthening the sector and sustaining the programs and services our communities rely on. This report offers leaders, funders, governments, and partners a shared picture of the challenges nonprofits are facing.

The Lawson Foundation, Tiny Foundation, Vancouver Foundation, and Victoria Foundation made the 2026 State of BC’s Non-Profit Sector Report possible through their generous support.
