Vantage Point has released their new COVID-19 impact report, Unraveling: Nonprofits, COVID-19, and the Fabric of BC Communities: A Snapshot 8 Months In.
A key finding is that 48% of organizations expect to shut down their operations if the current situation continues, which appears likely. While there is hope as vaccines are distributed, we can expect COVID-related challenges and restrictions will remain at least into the fall. 1 in 5 respondents report a likelihood of shutting down within 12 months. Other findings include:
- Smaller organizations — those with annual operating budgets of less than $1 million — more frequently reported being at risk of shutting down their operations within 6 months.
- Organizations from arts/culture, sport/recreation, or religion reported the most concern about shutdown.
- Among organizations that serve specific populations, those that focus on adults and/or racialized people reported the most concern about shutdown. Survey results from the Network for the Advancement of Black Communities and Carleton University’s Philanthropy and
- Nonproit Leadership indicate that 63% of Black community organization respondents said they will “run out of funding in less than six months.”
- Volunteerism has declined for a majority of respondents.
Vantage Point will join our free webinar on February 25, where we’ll look at COVID impacts on nonprofits across the country.
